OVERVIEW

This is undoubtedly an expedition to the heart of wild Patagonia. For six days we will walk joining two of the oldest Estancias in the area. Glaciers, forests, lakes, rivers and impressive mountains will leave us a memory for a lifetime. We will cross little marked trails; high passes in the mountains; rivers and wetlands that will make these days a true Adventure.

ITINERARY

Day 1: EL CHALTÉN – ESTANCIA HELSINGFORS

During the morning, a private transportation will pick us up at our hotel to begin a scenic journey through the steppe to the La Leona Parador, then we will skirt the southern side of Lake Viedma, until we reach Estancia Helsingfors. Along the way we will have unusual views of Cerro Fitz Roy, in the distance.

Once in Estancia Helsingfors we will meet the hotel staff, and we will check in rooms with private bathrooms, decorated and set with exquisite taste.

In the afternoon we can relax around a spacious fireplace in the living room and enjoy a drink at the bar.

At the end of the day, a selection of Argentine wines accompanies the delights of sophisticated regional cuisine.

Day 6:  ESTANCIA CRISTINA – CAÑADÓN DE LOS FÓSILES HIKE – EL CALAFATE

In the morning, our specialized drivers will pick us up in their 4×4 vehicles, to follow the route through the Feruglio Mountains, towards the Upsala Glacier lookout, views of the Lago Guillermo and the eastern side of the Glaciar Upsala, as well as the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

Once there, we will start a 14 km hike through Fossil Canyon. The fascinating Cañadón de los Fósiles – which is around 170 million years old – has been named so for its immense concentration of marine fossils, imprints of squid and jellyfish among them, left behind after the last ice age. We can observe a kaleidoscope of colors across this terrain, the canyon’s walls rising beside us as we make a gradual descent until reaching a ravine at the edge of the valley. Along the way, we’ll stop and tuck into our box lunches, before leaving the canyon behind, having explored it fully, then arriving back at the estancia.

Finally, we will navigate by the north arm of Lago Argentino to reach Puerto Bandera, where a vehicle will be waiting for us to take us to your hotel in El Calafate city. End of services.
